After the Hack

Yes, I was away on holiday when the Hack happened and so the site has been down for three weeks so far. I am just getting to grips with the reconstruction, I was about to update the theme anyway as I want to show more images if possible.

Emley & One & other

As a regular visitor to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and resident of West Yorkshire the ever present presence of Emley Moor mast creates a sensation of someone looking over your shoulder all the time. When you’re out and about you’ll suddenly find yourself glancing to the horizon to see if it’s still there or you’ll discover a view of the tower you hadn’t seen previously and be pleasantly amazed. ( Yes there will be a gallery of pure Emley shots and maybe an ode or two later. )

The Sculpture Park affords the ‘ Emley Gazers ‘ a splendid view, weather permitting, and excellent photo opportunity with the foreground parkland a subtle contrast, so they will be happy but the experience of the Moores plinthed in the open spaces being dwarfed by the scale of Emley and even of the trees kept making me want to create a sculpture at least as tall as a tree so it could compete on a level footing.

Andrew Gormley has realised this for the park by attaching a cast figure of himself on top of a tree in the park, getting over the problem of constructing something as tall as a tree with the attendant planning permission problems that can entail. However the tree has to be dead and the first tree he was on was bio-degraded to an unsafe state and he had to be lowered to safety. He’s now on a new dead tree which I think will also bio-degrade quickly as the pictures I took of it earlier in the spring had wasps or bees flying in and out so I guess there is a nest in there. Maybe they will have to construct a fake dead tree and face planning after all. Always, keep it simple, they keep telling me.

So putting two and two together I decided to go for the tall time sculptural scale and here submit my answer to the problem, Emley Mast lakeside at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, One & other on top and plonk it, sorry erect it in google virtual space, no planning permission and virtually no costs. The pic is a photomontage of what it might look like.

Culminating thoughts….

It’s strange to be in two minds, one is focused on adding content from my old website which was focussed on providing a record of finished works and the other is focussing on providing a record of the journey from thoughts to art works. So here I am recording something that just gelled a few ideas together in my mind whilst I was altering the Dryad post. The Entanglement series of paintings,The Soul Oaks, and the Dryads, are all dealing with two aspects of the same thing. The Entanglement paintings were inspired by reading about Quantum Entanglement, how all elementary particles are connected throughout the universe, The Soul Oaks embody the spirits of people, and now the Dryads which embody entities that occupy trees and can change into human form in order to interact with them.

Hi, Finally I have achieved WordPress status after reading about new developments in managing websites about three years ago. At that time I was hand crafting MisterBurnley.com using Webfusion  and Nvu then ftp to upload.

Well now all the bits are available from my host and believe you me 1 click installation and 5 mins later hey presto WordPress heaven I even used a plugin to transfer data from my Blogger Blog, No Problemo !. Looking forward to adapting Twenty Eleven or maybe installling a whole new theme.

Th’Owd Towser

What a way to be woken up. I feel like I’ve just got out of jail!!! It’s time to stop the ‘Rip Van Winkle’ mode and ‘ flag a blog ‘.
I’ll come to ‘Th’Owd Towser’ shortly but ‘Hear now’ we’ve had the Holmfirth Film Festival and it’s Holmfirth Arts Festival time again and at the end of the month of June it’s Holmfirth Art Week and the Fringe events plug for ‘ Light without Heat ‘.
W O W .Art Confused.com ????
So where is the art Zen amongst all this art cacophony, down at ‘ Th’Owd Towser’ and the Artists Talks which have been arranged to take place alongside the curated exhibition of artists responses to the space, a Grade 1 listed heritage site, once used as Holmfirth village church lockup, mortuary, ambulance station and fire station. Perhaps the oldest building in Holmfirth dating from circa 1597.
This well thought out, meaningful contemporary snapshot of ‘ art now responses’ and the discussion follow up create a sense of , ‘ being part of the process ‘ , audience inclusiveness at it’s best. More of this is needed to encourage the audience of potential consumers of artists’ works.   A big up to Alice Bradshaw and Vanessa Haley who curated the show.

Brown Paper Bag

Now, mentioning the fact that paper bags are sometimes square is pushing a link to my last post in case it sinks without trace due to lack of activity. Bit like the performer running around keeping plates balancing on the end of poles ! But that’s what has prompted an awakening of the sleeping blogger, a brown paper bag and  three events:

1. Email from Temporary Art Space. http://temporaryartspace.co.uk/
announcing the first Huddersfield Arts Festival 2010  unfunded, free for all. )

2. Checking out Bob Curate at http://bobmilner.wordpress.com/ and

3. Alice Curate at http://museumofcontemporyrubbish.blogspot.com/

Hot stuff when it comes to maximising the minimal in the art world by working with the intangibles.
